YACHATS, Ore. – A young humpback whale washed ashore on San Marine State Park around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, with crab pot fishing lines wrapped around it according to local residents and marine biologists.
Once locals noticed the beached whale, they called officials and experts in the hopes of saving the whale.
With some staying on the beach with the whale overnight cutting the ropes off and putting water on the mammal.
“Last night we were trying to get it straightened out so it could go out with the high tide,” Amy Parker, a local resident who had been with the beached whale since 4 p.m. Saturday, said. “I understand it's a grim situation, but we put water on it all night in hopes because they said the team would be here first thing in the morning.”
