The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board has announced its new Director of Education. Carey Smith-Dewey will be the board’s first female Director, replacing David DeSantis who announced his impending retirement in September. Smith-Dewey is a graduate of Nicholson Catholic College. She has worked as an elementary and secondary teacher in the Hastings and Prince Edward area before coming a Vice-principal at St. Paul Catholic Secondary School in Trenton and Principal of St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School in Belleville. In 2020, Carey transitioned to the role of Superintendent of Education at the Board Office in Napanee.
