MOUNTAIN HOME — Idaho State Police are investigating a deadly wrong-way crash that shut down part of Interstate 84 for hours early Monday morning.
The collision happened around 1:20 a.m. near mile marker 102 in Elmore County, when troopers say a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling east in the westbound lanes. The pickup struck a westbound semi-truck and trailer head-on, causing both vehicles to erupt in flames.
The driver of the Dodge, a 35-year-old man from McGregor, Texas, died at the scene, according to ISP. The 34-year-old semi-truck driver from Riverside, California, was flown by air ambulance to a nearby hospital. His condition has not been released.
The crash blocked both westbound lanes for roughly six and a half hours as fire crews, medics, and investigators worked to extinguish
