In the Diocese of Caruaru in Pernambuco, Brazil, a small parish has become a refuge for those who often go unseen. Father João Paulo Araujo Gomes has welcomed countless stray dogs into his church and home, turning a simple act of compassion into a life-changing mission for abandoned animals in his community.
For years, the priest has taken in dogs who were left to survive on the streets. He bathes them, feeds them, pays for their medical care, and gives them a safe place to sleep under his own roof. Many of the dogs stay close to him as though they understand how deeply he cares for them. To him, they are not temporary guests. They are part of his daily life and part of his heart.
