COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A second Honor Bell now has a permanent home in the Pikes Peak Region. A dedication ceremony will take place on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center. The nonprofit provided the last elements needed to fund the Pikes Peak Honor Bell, including a custom van to hold and transport the bell.
An “Honor Bell” is a bronze, thousand-pound bell that’s tolled at veterans services and memorials. However, its purpose is also to give closure and healing for veterans, including families who’ve lost a loved one.
The Pikes Peak Honor Bell includes 12 unique artifacts from 12 Colorado service members; those items were donated by their families. The bell was forged in the Netherlands.
