AKWESASNE — The playoff positioning for Northern Premier Hockey League (NPHL) teams in the region tightened up after Saturday’s matchups.

The Akwesasne Wild jumped into Frontier Division’s third place after turning aside the South Grenville Rangers 5-2 at home on Saturday , for their second victory of the season.

The win gets them within one point of perennial second-place South Stormont Mustangs, who couldn’t maintain a four-point cushion after dropping an 8-3 home decision to the undefeated Pioneer Division-leading Manotick Mariners.

Meanwhile, defending champs North Dundas Rockets used a long layoff to regroup from their first loss (to Manotick on Oct. 25) by trouncing Pioneer’s Paugan Falls Rapids, 12-5 .
