Each year, the first Thursday in December marks one of Baltimore’s most cherished traditions, the annual Monument Lighting at Mount Vernon Place.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, the city will once again come together to celebrate the start of the holiday season with music, food, and a dazzling fireworks display above the historic Washington Monument.

Now in its 54th year, Monument Lighting has become the unofficial opening of the holiday season in Baltimore.

Hosted by the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy, the event transforms the city’s cultural heart into a festive winter wonderland with thousands of LED light strings and fireworks bursting from abpve above.
