Salary savings from staff vacancies, and higher-than-expected billing revenue from the water and sewer departments, have left Brockville projecting a combined year-end surplus of nearly $527,000, a report headed to city council indicates.
The latest City Hall budget variance report – one of four fiscal snapshots staffers provide to council in the course of the budget year – projects a surplus of $348,929 for city departments, minus deficits projected by the Brockville Police Service ($93,931) and the joint services the city shares with other area municipalities ($14,864).
