Every week, the Las Cruces Sun-News will nominate several athletes for its Athlete of the Week award, sponsored by the El Paso Children's Hospital. The winner is decided by you, the readers.

The award highlights the best performances from Las Cruces-area schools from the previous week. This week, there are 10 football and volleyball nominees from Las Cruces, Organ Mountain, Centennial, Chaparral and Gadsden.

Last week's winner was Organ Mountain girls' cross country's Ashley Galaz , who finished third at the 5A girls' state cross country meet to earn her nomination. Be sure to submit nominees from this week's athletic contests to Nick Coppola at ncoppola@lcsun-news.com to use for next week's voting.
