GREENSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man convicted of the murder of a Wake County deputy was sentenced to an additional seven years in prison on Monday.
Alder Marin Sotelo, one of two brothers serving prison sentences for the murder of Wake County sheriff's deputy Ned Byrd , got the additional time for an escape from a Virginia detention center.
He is already serving a life sentence without parole for Byrd's murder.
In August 2022, investigators said that Alder Alfonso Marin-Sotelo and his older brother, Arturo Marin-Sotelo, shot and killed Byrd . Arturo Marin-Sotelo later admitted to authorities that they had an AK-47 with them at the time, but told investigators they were using it to hunt deer.
