The City of Galveston is turning its focus toward artificial intelligence (AI) to ease traffic congestion on the island, which welcomes around 7 million visitors annually.
The city council took its first step toward an AI traffic system on Nov. 13, when it approved nearly $3 million in federal grant money for a pilot program to design a full-fledged AI-based adaptive traffic signal system meant to eventually serve all 106 traffic lights on the island.
