Brooklyn Nets rookie guard Ben Saraf will be sidelined for at least the next 10 days because of a sprained left ankle, the team announced on Monday.
Saraf sustained the injury at the end of the first half on Saturday while on assignment with the Long Island Nets in the G League. He appeared to step on the foot of a defender in transition and was ruled out of returning in the second half.
The 26th pick, in his fourth appearance with Long Island, recorded seven points, five assists, four rebounds and one steal in 16 minutes before the injury in the 127-116 loss against the Maine Celtics. He shot 3-of-6 from the field, including 1-of-3 from 3-point range.
Saraf is averaging 3.3 points, 2.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds on 25.9% shooting from the field in seven appearances with Brooklyn. He started the first five games of the season, but he has played sporadically since then, totaling only five minutes.
The 19-year-old is posting averages of 14.2 points, 3.8 assists, three rebounds and one steal on 46.5% shooting from the field with Long Island. He debuted with the team on Nov. 7, recording 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Saraf is one of five first-round picks for the Nets this year. The organization has formulated a detailed development plan for the group, which includes games in the NBA and G League, though Saraf will now be tasked with recovering from an ankle injury.
