AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - An 82-year-old man found not criminally responsible for a murder decades ago in Maine is asking for modifications to his living conditions.
Donald Beauchene is currently living in a group home connected with the Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta.
Beauchene was found not criminally responsible for the stabbing death of 30-year-old Bernardine Israelson in 1969.
Beauchene escaped twice from Riverview in the past, and after the second escape, he spent fifteen years in a New York prison for rape.
Currently, he lives at an Augusta group home with a five-mile radius limit monitored by an ankle bracelet.
Beauchene appeared in court on Monday to ask for the removal of the ankle bracelet and a right to a hearing if he is required to return to the psychiatric facili
