ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - The Quad Cities community went into a frenzy on Jan. 16 when a call came in saying a 4-year-old girl was inside a car when it was stolen in a Rock Island neighborhood.
The girl was found safe hours later, but questions started circulating;
Why she was found so close to her home?
How she was warm to the touch after going missing for several hours in the middle of January?
Two weeks later, Rock Island Police Chief Tim McCloud announced charges that alleged the kidnapping claims were a hoax .
The girl’s mother, Princesse Ilunga was charged with filing a fake police report. Police said she wasn’t at home when they filed the charges, and she wouldn’t be found for several hours until she was pulled over in Wisconsin with her kids in the car.
