COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Residents along Duke Avenue in North Columbia say the state-maintained road has been deteriorating for years, creating daily hazards for the nearly 4,000 vehicles that use the busy one-mile stretch.
The roughest section sits downhill by Second Chance Universal Covenant Church, where parishioner Rosa Brannon described the jarring ride.
“It goes boom, boom, boom. And I said Lord, have mercy,” Brannon said. “They need to redo the whole road, especially right here in front of church. Man, this is God’s property. They don’t have no consideration for God’s property?”
The road’s condition forces drivers to make dangerous maneuvers, according to resident Patricia Garvin.
