DEDHAM, Mass. —

Five witnesses in the Karen Read case said they plan to sue her and Turtleboy blogger Aidan Kearney for defamation in the wake of Read's two high-profile criminal trials and amid an ongoing civil case.

The potential plaintiffs include Jen and Matt McCabe, Brian and Nicole Albert and Brian Higgins. During her criminal trial, Read accused them of being the real killers of John O'Keefe and attempting to frame her.

Kearney was a vocal advocate for Read's claims, and prosecutors alleged that the two communicated about the case, sometimes through third parties. Kearney still faces witness intimidation cases stemming from the events.

In a new legal brief, the witnesses argue that Read created "a vile work of fiction," concocted "to evade responsibility for her actions."
