YAKIMA, Wash. – The Fruitvale Community Market reopened in March 2023, aiming to combat food insecurity in the area. The market operates six hours a day, three days a week, providing nutritious meals to anyone in need.
The market's manager shared that the market originally saw about 600 people daily, but that number has recently increased to as high as 1,200. "It just means that we're going to be a little bit busier, but it's something that we could. We could, we could do," said the Fruitvale Community Market Manager, Reynaldo Macedo. "Like I always believe when we come together, everybody can. We can do it."
The market emphasizes that their main goal is to ensure people receive food, regardless of how busy they get. The market will be open again on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
