ROCK HILL, S.C. — A 20-year-old Rock Hill woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after authorities say she induced labor at 27 weeks pregnant and failed to seek medical help for the newborn.
Jocelyn Byrum was taken into custody Sunday after an investigation that began when police were called to assist emergency medical services at a home on Riverview Road on Wednesday, Nov. 12, according to the Rock Hill Police Department.
Police said the initial call reported a miscarriage, but when officers and EMS arrived at the home, Byrum admitted to taking medication to induce labor with the intention of terminating her pregnancy. Emergency responders immediately began life-saving treatment and transported the infant to a hospital.
