WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem City Council is expected to vote Monday night on two affordable housing developments that together would add more than 200 apartments and townhomes across the city.
The proposals, one off Peters Creek Parkway and another off Indiana Avenue, would bring a combined 226 units, aimed at helping close the city’s 10,000+ affordable unit shortage. Officials estimate the community needs more than 11,000 affordable units to meet current demand.
“Two or 300 units doesn't sound like it makes a dent in an 11,000 unit need, but as the mayor said at our ribbon cutting last Wednesday, we just gotta get up and do it again, because we have to do this over and over and figure out how to help with this severe need for affordable housing in our community,” said realto
