The Ford government is reportedly looking at changes to the province’s sex offender registry that would make some information public.
CTV News Toronto reported on Monday that the Ontario government will introduce legislation next week that would start consultations on making some information from the Ontario Sex Offender and Sex Trafficker Registry (OSOTR) publicly accessible.
“If you have a sex offender who’s living next door or down the street and you have a bunch of kids, you want to know about it. So we’re going to make sure the sex offender registry is out there, public,” Premier Doug Ford told the outlet at Queen’s Park on Monday.
Ford said he would use the notwithstanding clause “in a heartbeat” to ensure that the change could not be overturned via a Charter challenge.
