PARADISE, Calif. - A "Goodfire" event in Paradise aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of prescription burns and fire suppression on Saturday. Local officials and conservationists gathered to educate the community on this vital fire management strategy.

Intentional fire, or "Goodfire," is used to maintain forest health and reduce wildfire risk. Dan Efseaff, district manager of the Paradise Recreation and Park District, emphasized the importance of understanding and utilizing fire as a tool for resilience.

"Understanding that fire in this landscape has been with us for time immemorial, and we need to have understanding how to live with fire and that in turn can make forests healthy and help reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire," Efseaff said.
