After months of pressure and political maneuvering, on Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on whether to release Department of Justice files regarding the convicted sex offender who was found dead in a jail cell in 2019, Jeffrey Epstein.
President Donald Trump told reporters he would sign a bill to compel the Justice Department to release files if Congress passes it. His comments came a day after he urged House Republicans to vote for the measure, a dramatic reversal from his previous opposition to it.
Four House Republicans, none from Texas, teamed with Democratic members to force a vote through a procedural move known as a “discharge petition.” It is not the regular process in Congress, but a way to force a vote around the committee process.
