The first witnesses will be heard today in Queensland's Commission of Inquiry into the CFMEU and Misconduct in the Construction Industry.
The inquiry was announced by Premier David Crisafulli in July after a report by Geoffrey Watson SC, as well as investigations by 60 Minutes and Nine newspapers, that revealed allegations of systemic violence, intimidation, misogyny and bullying within the union.
The inquiry has bipartisan support from the opposition leader and former premier Steven Miles.
Only 55 people were interviewed as part of the investigation for the Watson report, with many critical witnesses refusing to speak for fear of retribution.
Crisafulli said the inquiry has the power to compel documents and witnesses as well as provide protection for witnesses.
