A dream 40 years in the making. That's how Calvin Duncan describes

Duncan's remarkable journey took him from Angola inmate wrongfully convicted of murder to elected official at Tulane and Broad.

New Orleans voters elected Duncan, a political newcomer, in a race that captured national attention.

"Thank all of you for believing in me. Thank you all for just having faith and a belief that we could do it," Duncan told supporters.

Duncan spent three decades at Angola before a judge overturned his murder conviction in 2021.

"It doesn't make a difference what your situation is or what kind of trouble you've been in, what education you got. It don't make a difference. Do it," Duncan said.
