CATRON COUNTY, N.M. —
A wildfire on the western edge of the Gila Wilderness has reached 100 acres in steep, rugged terrain that is of safety concern for firefighters.
Dubbed the Blue Fire, it is 18 miles northeast of Glenwood, south of Willow Creek, in an area with a high density of snags, oak brush, and locust. The cause is not yet known and the fire is not yet contained.
The fire is taking place in the burn scar of the Turkeyfeather Fire from earlier this year.
The weather there is expected to be cool and dry for the next several days. Precipitation is forecast to begin on Sunday through early next week, which could limit the fire's growth.
Smoke may be visible from Snow Lake and Willow Creek, but communities in the area have not been evacuated.
