A longtime Phoenicia couple was found dead inside their Shandaken home in what investigators say was a murder-suicide, New York State Police announced on Monday, Nov. 17.
Troopers from the Kingston barracks were called to a home on Highview Road in the town of Shandaken at 7:29 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, after a report that two people were unconscious and unresponsive, according to the release.
Inside a bedroom, police found 68-year-old Deborah A. Warren dead from a gunshot wound. Nearby, troopers found Mark P. Braman, 69, also of Phoenicia, dead from what investigators say appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Braman was born on Aug. 7, 1956, according to his obituary. A private service is planned at the family plot at Mt. Pleasant Rural Cemetery, and memorial donations may be made to the Phoenicia United Methodist Church Thrift Shoppe.
Dozens of friends and former coworkers from Rotron, where Braman worked for many years, posted tributes expressing shock and sadness online.
“He was a pleasure to work with,” one former colleague wrote. Others called him “a great guy,” “always willing to help,” and “a good man to work with,” while sharing condolences with his family. Several noted that many members of their former Rotron community have recently died, calling the news “so sad” and “another good one gone too soon.”
State Police were assisted by the Town of Shandaken Police Department. Investigators said there is no threat to the public.
Anyone with information is asked to contact New York State Police at (845) 344-5300 and reference case #NY2501127457.
