A man is in critical condition in hospital after he was shot by police when he allegedly approached the officers with a knife.
It was the second shooting by police in Queensland on November 18, after a man was shot and killed by officers in Caboolture.
Police were called to an intersection in Kanimbla, a suburb of Cairns in Far North Queensland, at 10.30am following reports of an armed man on the corner of Elphinstone Street and Ramsey Drive.
The man allegedly approached police while holding a knife, and one officer fired his gun, Queensland Police said.
The officers provided medical assistance to the man and he was taken to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition.
Police said that two crime scenes were declared in Kanimbla, and the surrounding roads have been closed.
