WASHINGTON (WSAZ) – A new report from the U.S. Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General shows West Virginia did not comply with several requirements when it comes to responding to reports of child abuse and neglect.

Those requirements are set in place by the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act.

According to the report, the department says out of 100 cases they looked at:

- In 74 of those, the parents or guardians were not notified.

- In 61 cases, initial assessments were not completed within 30 days.

- In 41 cases, interviews with children or adults were never completed.

As a result, the office has recommended the state provide further training, as well as develop written procedures and policies.
