The Election Commission on Monday ordered ‘special revision’ of electoral rolls in Assam, setting January 1 (2026) as the qualifying date for the exercise while the final voter list will be published on February 10.

As there were special provisions for citizenship in Assam, special revision (SR) was being ordered in the state instead of special intensive revision (SIR), the EC said in a statement. “The verification of citizenship is already being done under the supervision of the Supreme Court and is in its final stages. Therefore, SR is being ordered in place of SIR," the EC said.
