TAMPA, Fla. — Florida law enforcement agencies say more than 100 missing or endangered children are now safe following what officials are calling one of the largest and most successful child-recovery missions in state history.
“Operation Home for the Holidays” brought together more than 200 agencies and partners across Tampa Bay, Orlando, Jacksonville, Fort Myers and surrounding counties — an unprecedented coalition that included the FBI, 11 sheriff’s offices, four police departments, four state agencies and 25 nonprofit organizations.
Officials found or recovered children across Florida and in nine other states, ranging from 23 months to 17 years old. A portion of these kids told officials they experienced abuse and were near other criminal activity.
