Sergio Perez is officially back: refreshed, recharged, and headed to the Formula 1 grid with Cadillac in 2026 after a rare year on the sidelines.

And for the first time in a long time, the Mexican star says he’s rediscovered something far more valuable than a contract: his passion.

Just 18 months ago, Perez was flying high. He’d finished 2023 as runner-up in the championship, the best season of his career, helping Red Bull seal another Constructors’ title.

Early in 2024, he even signed a new deal extending his Red Bull stint to six years.

Then the bottom fell out.

Perez’s form collapsed dramatically, returning only nine points across the final eight Grands Prix. By season’s end, both sides agreed to part ways, despite two years still left on his contract.
