A man allegedly involved in a Sydney gangland murder was instructed by a high-ranking member of the underworld and told "he didn't die" after the intended target survived, a court has heard.
Police have alleged Jacob El-Masri, 19, was tasked with conducting surveillance on the target, who survived the broad daylight attack in Granville earlier this year.
Three others also survived after a gunman fired from the window of a nearby Mercedes into a ute on Woodville Road about 5pm as it stopped in traffic on May 25.
The shooting claimed the life of underworld figure Dawood Zakaria, 32, and sparked the formation of Taskforce Falcon, which has been investigating a series of linked attacks.
Sydney solicitor Sylvan Singh was driving the ute when the gunman opened fire on the group but survived
