A pair of Western Slope football teams advanced to the next round of the high school playoffs over the weekend.
But the games were quite different. Montrose, the No. 2 seed in Class 4A cruised to an easy 55-6 win over Frederick, while Palisade’s victory went down the the wire.
As the No. 3 seed in 3A, Palisade (9-2) rallied from 10 points down in the final five minutes to beat Timnath 27-24 to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs will now host No. 6 Roosevelt (8-3) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Stocker Stadium.
Roosevelt defeated Pueblo County 47-0 in the first round.
The top seed in 3A is Windsor (11-0).
In the 4A and 3A playoffs, the higher seed will host all the way to the title game, which will be played at a neutral site in Fort Collins.
