The central government has amended the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, and has increased the fees for fitness test of vehicles across the country by up to 10 times the current levels.

Under the new rules, the age slab for higher fitness-test fees has been shifted from 15 years to 10 years. The government has also introduced three clear age categories: 10-15 years, 15-20 years, and more than 20 years. Each category now carries a higher fee as the vehicle gets older.

The new fees are based on the age and type of the vehicle, and they replace the earlier flat structure that applied to most vehicles above 15 years of age.
