NEW DELHI: A video featuring Dr Umar un Nabi, the prime suspect in the recent Red Fort blast, has emerged, where he discusses suicide bombing, referring to it as a "martyrdom operation." This video surfaced a week after the November 10 explosion that killed 13 people and injured many others. In the one-minute video, Umar claims that suicide bombing is a misunderstood concept, stating, "When a person presumes that he is going to die for sure at a particular place at a particular time, he goes against the presumption that a person is going to die in a particular situation."
The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified, but it is believed to have been recorded for his associates. The Delhi Police are currently investigating the video, which is seen as a potential tool for radicalising others.
Umar was driving the Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort. Investigators have confirmed his identity through DNA samples and forensic evidence found at the scene. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two of Umar's associates, Amir Rashid Ali and Jasir Bilal Wani, who allegedly helped facilitate the attack. The car used in the blast was registered in Ali's name, and he was involved in its purchase.
The investigation has revealed that Umar was part of a larger terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, which has been recruiting educated professionals, including doctors. Authorities are examining the video closely to understand Umar's mindset and the broader plans for future attacks. Reports indicate that the group had intended to carry out multiple attacks, with the Red Fort being a target on January 26, but the plan was accelerated due to increased security measures and the busting of their module in Faridabad.
The NIA continues to probe the case, focusing on the group's plans to weaponise drones and use explosives in future attacks. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts being made across multiple states to dismantle the network behind the blast.
