India’s capital markets have hit a historic fundraising milestone, with companies raising more money through initial public offerings (IPOs) in the last five years than in the entire two decades before that, Equirus Capital said in its report on Tuesday. According to the report, firms mobilised Rs 5.39 lakh crore through IPOs between 2020 and 2025, surpassing the Rs 4.56 lakh crore collected over 2000-2020.

What makes the jump more striking is that it came with half the number of issues. Only 336 IPOs hit the market in 2020-2025, compared with 658 in the twenty years before that. The shift, Equirus says, highlights how Indian markets have matured, with companies comfortably raising larger cheques per issue.
