For the Hawaii football team, this week’s goal is to not treat the Ninth Island as if it were Cloud Nine.

“It’s a business trip,” UH coach Timmy Chang said of Friday’s road game against UNLV at Allegiant Stadium. “It’s no different than how we travel to Air Force and Colorado State and also San Jose State. Having a mindset about why we know we’re going up there.”

There are several side stories to this game between Mountain West rivals. Both at 4-2, the Rainbow Warriors and Rebels are part of a five-way tie for second place behind 5-1 San Diego State with two weekends remaining in the regular season. The top two teams play in the Mountain West’s championship game.
