A former Stoughton police detective accused of killing a young pregnant woman whom he allegedly began sexually exploiting when she was 15 years old wants to move his upcoming trial out of Massachusetts.
Lawyers for Matthew Farwell, 40, notified the court Friday afternoon of their plans to seek permission to hold his trial elsewhere. His trial is scheduled for next October.
Farwell is accused of killing Sandra Birchmore in her Canton apartment on Feb. 1, 2021. He is also accused of causing the death of the baby boy she was carrying when she died. Farwell has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail in a detention facility in Rhode Island.
