HUNTS POINT, The Bronx (PIX11) – Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson is joining residents on Tuesday to send a message to Gov. Kathy Hochul – don’t expand the Cross Bronx Expressway .
The Bronx River Alliance told PIX11 News that a $900 million New York State Department of Transportation proposal to rehab the roadway would increase traffic nearby. The group is calling for the state to team with the city’s blue highways effort, a long-term plan to reactivate the waterfront as a major artery to transport goods.
Work to outfit Hunts Point with a new marine freight site has already begun. New York City officials estimated that once finished, the new hub will keep roughly 1,000 trucks off South Bronx streets.
Blue highways could also create more than 100,000 jobs over the next decade,
