Iran has suspended its visa-waiver facility for Indian citizens, effective November 22, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. The move comes amid growing concern that the visa-free route was being abused by criminal networks.

The MEA said that Indians were lured into Iran with fake job offer s or promises of travel to other countries.

"The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has accordingly suspended the visa waiver facility available to ordinary Indian passport holders visiting Iran with effect from 22 November 2025. This measure is intended to prevent further misuse of the facility by criminal elements," the MEA said.
