A massive fire tore through a multi-unit apartment complex in Chesapeake Beach early Monday morning, displacing about two dozen residents and causing an estimated $1.5 million in damage, authorities said.
Fire crews from Calvert County and surrounding areas were called to the 3900 block of Gordon Stinnett Avenue around 6:36 a.m. after reports of flames in the courtyard area, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. When firefighters arrived, flames were already spreading into the attic and through the roof.
The blaze destroyed 14 apartments and displaced roughly 25 people, officials said. All occupants were accounted for, and one person was taken to a hospital for treatment. Property losses were estimated at $1.25 million for the structure and $250,000 for the contents.
