Large wooden sheets of roofing material flew off the top of Colorado State University Pueblo's Library and Academic Resource Center (LARC) before crashing into cement on Nov. 17.
The flying debris was caused by high wind gusts in Pueblo County that started around 11 p.m. and peaked around 12:45 p.m. at 56 mph, according to National Weather Service Pueblo Lead Forecaster Makoto Moore. CSU Pueblo notified community members of the loose roofing material in a 12:17 p.m. alert text message.
"Due to severe wind conditions, roofing material being utilized for the LARC building has become unsecure and is blowing off the roof," the alert message said. "For your safety, please avoid the area around the LARC while our facilities team secures the site."
