Much has been made of the UCP’s hypocrisy and short-sightedness in introducing voter recall and citizen initiative — and subsequently lowering the thresholds for both — only to then be offended and outraged when these tools are used against them.
But there’s an adjacent issue to all of this where the government’s lack of foresight and judgment could also be called into question — political donations and spending limits.
With the prospect of various recall votes and referendums — including and especially a potential separation vote — it is reasonable to wonder just how robust our system is when it comes to tracking and regulating the cost of these campaigns.
