A technical issue at Cloudflare has caused significant disruptions to various internet services on Tuesday morning. The outage affected numerous websites and applications globally, including ChatGPT, social media platform X, and online gaming services like League of Legends. Cloudflare reported the issue on its status page, stating that it began experiencing problems around the time it was scheduled for maintenance on November 18. The company acknowledged an internal service degradation, which led to intermittent impacts on its services. "Cloudflare is experiencing an internal service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate. More updates to follow shortly," the company stated. Users reported widespread 500 errors and failures with the Cloudflare Dashboard and API. In response to the situation, Cloudflare temporarily disabled certain services for users in the United Kingdom. As part of its remediation efforts, Cloudflare announced that it had made changes that allowed some services, such as Cloudflare Access and WARP, to recover. "Error levels for Access and WARP users have returned to pre-incident rates. We have re-enabled WARP access in London," the company noted. The outage has drawn comparisons to previous incidents, such as the Amazon Web Services outage in October 2025, which similarly disrupted access to numerous popular websites. Downdetector, a service that tracks outages, reported a significant increase in outage reports from users of various platforms, including Spotify, Facebook, and Canva. The range of affected services varies by region, but major companies like Alphabet (Google, YouTube), PayPal, and Meta (Facebook, Instagram) were among those impacted. This incident highlights the vulnerability of the internet, as many services rely heavily on cloud infrastructure. When such providers experience outages, the effects can be widespread and may take time for businesses to fully recover from, even if the technical issues are resolved quickly. Cloudflare continues to work on restoring all affected services and will provide updates as the situation develops.
