A council consultation on Glasgow links to the slave trade has been hijacked by people making racist remarks.
The local authority had to cut back on its bid to gather views on how to mark the city’s transatlantic slave trade history due to the “online hostility”.
One councillor said she is quite “angry” about the abuse and said she hoped anyone responsible had been reported to the police.
Despite the online citizen engagement tool being hit by bigotry, the council said it still managed to get some useful viewpoints.
Now it is using the findings to develop a slavery trail to guide visitors around key locations in the city – with connections to the past. Councillors were briefed on the plan last week at a committee.
