The weight of the moment wasn’t lost on Paul Brott. But the toll of another attempted goal-line stand against North Dakota State in the FCS national championship game put him on edge.
On Montana State’s third attempt of the night, Brott had stopped NDSU running back CharMar Brown short alongside Brody and Bryce Grebe. Brott came away from the pile pounding his chest toward the MSU sideline.
NDSU quarterback Cam Miller found tight end Joe Stoffel for a 1-yard touchdown on the next play, putting the Bison up 10 points with 14 minutes, 18 seconds to play.
Playing with emotion helped Brott become MSU’s starting nose tackle. Uncorking those emotions without a purpose led to negative outcomes.
On the sideline, he let the inner beast out.
