England flags painted onto a zebra crossing will be removed at the taxpayers' expense.

St George's crosses recently appeared on a crossing in Audley, North Staffordshire .

This is the second time red paint has been added to the crossing in Church Street this year.

The first time was in August, StokeonTrentLive reports.

Staffordshire County Council, run by Reform UK, is now preparing the remove the paint.

Councillor Patrick Allen, cabinet support member for highways north, urged people to show their love for the country in 'other ways'.

He said: "Although we appreciate displays of patriotism, we cannot condone painting highways assets in this way because this presents safety and insurance issues.
