ROGERS CITY — November 18th, 2025 marks 67 years since the sinking of the Carl D. Bradley on Lake Michigan.

The sinking claimed the lives of 33 of the 35 crewmen.

23 of those who perished were from the Northeast Michigan town of Rogers City.

Only two members of the crew survived: Frank Mays and Elmer Fleming.

Mays devoted his life to telling the story of the ship and her crew until his passing in 2021.

The Bradley’s bell currently sits in Rogers City at the Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum, and is rung each year to commemorate the lives lost when the Bradley went down.
