PITTSBURGH -- When Darius Slay was listed as out for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals , it pointed to a chance for James Pierre to showcase what he could do.
Pierre, the sixth-year NFL veteran, was always known as the standout special teams gunner, but had impressed in his limited opportunities this season. Yet, covering Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins is another challenge altogether.
So, how did Pierre respond? He came out of nowhere to play the best game of his entire career, and may have solidified his spot in the starting lineup.
“Never lose belief in yourself,” Pierre said. “Everyday, it’s constant. Like, it’s a job to believe in yourself every day.”
