EAU CLAIRE, Mich. -- Michigan DNR is working with 13 deer processing organizations across the state to provide deer meat to those in need through the Feeding America Network.

The meat gets distributed to around 2,000 pantries across the state, according to Michigan's DNR.

The program launched in 2007 and last year was a record year with 140,000 pounds of ground venison processed.

One deer makes up roughly 160 servings and Tim Nimtz, owner of Clearwater Meats says he thinks they will beat that record this year.

Clearwater Meats has been around for over a decade and now they participate in this initiative to help those in need.
